Foundations of communication and language and links to cultural capital

Friday, February 3, 2023 15:00 - 16:00

The Early Years Foundation Stage identifies Communication and Language as a prime area of learning. We aim to support all children to become confident and skilful communicators planning interesting and exciting learning opportunities to promote awe and wonder and introduce new vocabulary. However, some children may struggle along the way with transient difficulties or long-term speech, language and communication needs (SLCN). Join Sue for this seminar to explore how we can support speech, language and communication and some of the reasons why children might experience delays or a longer term SLCN.

Key takeaways:

  • Identify what do we mean by speech, language and communication
  • Explore possible reasons why some children may have SLC difficulties
  • Consider how cultural capital links to speech, language and communication
