Education for Sustainable Citizenship in Early Childhood

Friday, February 3, 2023 13:30 - 14:30

This will be a practical and interactive seminar, of value, and supportive of practice at a variety of levels.

Sustainable Citizenship is a life-long emergent capability that we all aspire to achieve. We share this journey with the children in our care, and with the families that we serve.  The work has been developed by OMEP in more than a decade of international collaboration with OMEP and UNESCO colleagues.

Key takeaways:

  • Play affordances, the importance of ‘flow’, and the adult’s role in ‘seeding’ the play environment.
  • Recognising our interdependence with the natural world and our interdependence with global and local cultures and communities.
  • Contributing towards the Convergence and Contraction of Carbon Footprints.
  • How an Education for Sustainable Citizenship provides a holistic curriculum framework for integration and inclusion.
